The Return Home

Every Return is a New Beginning

by Justin Huggler

All of us look to our childhoods to explain our failings. But what would our childhood selves make of the people we have become?

Autumn 1983. Eight-year-old Ben watches from the top of the stairs as a haggard figure limps into the hallway below.

Ben’s uncle Jack, seriously injured in Afghanistan, is not the same man who left. His return home will throw the lives of his family into turmoil.

Set in an atmospheric Jersey, storm-torn and overshadowed by its Nazi-occupied past, The Return Home is a gripping tale about growing up, the breaking and mending of relationships and facing our disappointments in order to move on.

“"Plotted with an impressive tautness...this clever sensitive novel has a tremendous sense of place... This is a book about a man being forced to grow up, long after he has reached adulthood. It stays with you." ”
The Sunday Telegraph
“"The Return Home is not only exciting, but deeply human. " ”
